Choose a corded robotic cleaner when you have a manual-compliant power-supply location, a workable cable route, and want to start another cycle without waiting for a recharge. Choose cordless when removing an operating cable from the deck matters and the exact battery runtime, charging location, retrieval method, and battery-service path fit your routine. Cleaning coverage and debris fit still depend on the model, not the cord.

These examples illustrate fields, not a head-to-head performance test. Their pool sizes, coverage, controls, filters, and service systems are not equivalent.

Safety and setup are different, not absent

Hayward’s corded TigerShark manual requires a GFCI-protected supply and gives exact power-supply placement, cable, swimmer, disconnection, and sealed-unit rules. The Polaris FREEDOM manual gives separate charging, battery, storage, retrieval, swimmer, and service instructions. Read the exact manual before choosing where the device will live.

  • Do not use an extension cord or alter a plug/power supply unless the exact manual permits it.
  • Do not operate either type with swimmers in the pool.
  • Do not lift a corded unit by its cable or a cordless unit by a non-retrieval part.
  • Do not open a sealed power supply, motor, battery, or charger.
  • Do not charge a wet, hot, damaged, or chemically contaminated unit outside the manual’s conditions.

Coverage and pool fit outweigh the cord label

Power type does not tell you whether a robot cleans walls, waterline, steps, benches, or fine debris. Record pool type, dimensions, surface, transition, shape, drains, ledges, debris, required coverage, storage, lift, and budget. Do not assume a battery lifespan, cable lifespan, resale value, or universal energy advantage. Ask for current parts diagrams, warranty terms, authorized service, replacement pricing, and region support for the exact model.

Replacement parts and product roles

A robot is complete equipment. A floating cable, power supply, battery, charger, dock, filter, brush, or track is a replacement part; a caddy or cover may be an accessory. Similar connectors or family names do not prove compatibility. Use the replacement-parts checklist.

Use verified matches, not a category winner

Open the Robotic Pool Cleaner Finder and compare only models whose exact identity, pool fit, coverage, runtime/cable, filter, limitations, and live product route are confirmed. The Equipment Library shows the evidence boundary. Product cards remain dynamic and Tier A only; if no current model clears the rules, the useful result is an honest empty recommendation.
